What's new

ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Energy and Technology Museum is located in the premises of the first public power plant in Vilnius. The power plant started working in 1903. The symbol of the museum is the allegorical sculpture “Electra” on top of the tower of the building.

MUSEUM HISTORY

The museum invited its first visitors on 14 February 2003, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first power plant of Vilnius. At the time, the museum only took a mere 13% of the floor space of the former power plant and the rest of the building was in very rough shape. During the last years the museum has grown gradually and it is now the most important energy and technology museum in Lithuania.

History of the First Power Plant of Vilnius

The first power plant of Vilnius, built in 1902, gave rise to the modernization of the whole city. We invite you to get acquainted with the history of prosperity, decline and revival of this important industrial object. This particular building was the place where the path of electric lighting to the streets of Vilnius begun, and a new modern era has started.
